Volunteers are always needed to help with daily tasks and our many projects. No specific experience or vocation is required to help Save-A-Pet. The following is a partial list of tasks for which we need help:


Canine Care

Become part of the Canine Care Team. Walking the dogs in the 5 acres at the back of the adoption center, socializing with them in an enclosed area and taking them to Save-A-Pet events for more exposure, are some of the ways you can help reduce their stress in the adoption center.
– You must be physically able to walk on hilly / uneven terrain 365 days of the year. The walking area in the back
is quite steep in some areas.
– You must be willing to commit to participate in at least two Save-A-Pet events per year.
– You must be able to commit to at least six hours of volunteer time a month.
– You are under the supervision of Canine Care Staff while at the adoption center and must follow their guidelines
in regards to interacting with the dogs.


Feline Care

Become part of the Feline Care Team. You will be supporting the Feline Care Staff with the care of the cats in the adoption center. This includes helping reduce the stress the cats in the adoption rooms may have by socializing with them and taking them to Save-A-Pet events for more exposure.
– You must be able, if asked by Feline Care Staff, to help in the cleaning, setup and general upkeep of the
feline adoption rooms.
– You must be able to help in the laundry room, if asked by Feline Care Staff.
– You must be willing to commit to participate in at least two Save-A-Pet events per year.
– You must be able to commit to at least six hours of volunteer time per month.
– You are under the supervision of Feline Care Staff while at the adoption center and must follow their
guidelines in regards to interacting with the cats.


Save-A-Pet Ambassador

Are you upbeat and energetic? Do you like to have fun and be fun?
Would you like to MEET new animal friendly people in the community?
Would you like to PROMOTE Save-A-Pet by INFORMING the public about the good work that Save-A-Pet does? The need that Save-A-Pet helps to fill?
Would you like to PROMOTE upcoming Save-A-Pet events by sharing information with the public at many kinds of community awareness and adoption events such as: pet expos, retail store adoption events, fundraising events, parades, etc.
-Be an ambassador for Save-A-Pet at events
-Support the event by attending and maintaining the Save-A-Pet booth or table by talking to guests and handing out information on Save-A-Pet and championing our No Kill Mission.
-Support the event by bringing adoptable residents to the event.
-Help in the organization of events


Petsmart Adoption Centers

Every day we rely on volunteers to help us maintain and care for our cats located at the Kildeer and Vernon Hills Petsmart Adoption Centers.
-Volunteers must be able to commit to a two hour,scheduled period of time on a weekly basis.
-Volunteers will be expected to clean and refresh the cat condos in the Petsmart adoption center.
-Volunteers are asked to play and socialize with the cats residing at the Petsmart adoption center to help reduce their stress.
-Volunteers will assist guests looking to adopt and introduce them to residing cats in the Petsmart adoption center. This will include having the guests fill out adoption forms, which will then be given to the Lead volunteer of the store.
-Volunteers must be able to commit to supporting the Petsmart Adoption Events held at the store.


Attend and/or Organize Fund-raising Projects and Events

Work with our Development Manager in planning, coordinating, and attending a variety of fundraising activities/events.


Writers & Graphic Designers

Contribute newspapers feature articles, newsletters, special fund-raising letters, etc. Help us design posters, flyers, marketing materials, as well as graphics for our Facebook page and website.


Adoption Center Maintenance

A variety of repair and maintenance work is always needed for the safety and well-being of the animals and the people who work with them.
