Thank You!
Save-A-Pet is elated to announce, with your help, we have won the Toshiba for Good Helping the Helpers $100k Technology Grant!
“I just wanted to thank all our fans who voted and asked for others to support Save-A-Pet in the Toshiba for Good Helping the Helpers contest. With your efforts, Save-A-Pet won the contest and $100,000 of equipment! Please know that your support has helped us in a very important way by allowing us to have computers that actually work, a stable network, and we can once again swipe credit cards. This is life changing for us here at Save-A-Pet. Thank you so much!”
Erica Wyatt – Executive Director
Save-A-Pet National Finalist For Toshiba Technology Grant
We need your help! Computers that shut down in mid-use; a copier that makes illegible copies; a credit card machine that refuses to accept swiped credit cards – these are just a few of the technology troubles Save-A-Pet deals with on a daily basis.
“We raise money to support our mission and most of our donations are used to care for the animals we rescue and house. It is difficult for us to fund technology upgrades,” says Executive Director, Erica Wyatt. “When this opportunity arose, we looked at one of our volunteers (Julie, who owns her production company, Cooperland Productions) to help us put this video together. Julie donated her skills and time to produce our own video.”
Of the over 70 video entries submitted for the contest, Save-A-Pet’s entry, “A Paw Behind: A Tale of Failed Technology”, was selected as a national finalist and now enters a fan voting period with four other entrants.
Every day between now and March 10th, Facebook users can vote daily for Save-A-Pet’s video at https://apps.facebook.com/helpingthehelpers/contests/300419/voteable_entries/64244078
The Toshiba Helping the Helpers Technology Grant is a fun way for the community to get involved and to show their support for Save-A-Pet with just a simple click of a button. Not to mention, a $100,000 worth of technology would be life changing for Save-A-Pet. Thank you for making it happen and make sure to vote every day!
12/31/2012 - Life changing day for Caboose!
Meet Caboose! He is a charming 6 year old male Chihuahua mix. When a local resident found him struggling to walk along side some train tracks on New Year’s Eve, she brought him to Save-A-Pet. We were happy to accept him as our last incoming animal of 2012. Caboose was below his ideal weight, but even more concerning was that he was not able to use his hind legs properly. Although a bit shy and shaken up at first, he was friendly with the staff, even letting them pick him up.
Upon his first vet exam he was diagnosed with grade 4 luxated patellas on both legs. Caboose’s knee caps are essentially permanently popped out of their groove, and the muscles in his legs are stuck in a contracted state due to the neglect of this issue for such a long time. The vet recommends a lot of physical therapy to get his muscles “un-stuck”, and once that is improved; he can have surgery to repair his knee caps.
Check him out in this video

With patience, some physical therapy, and a lot of tender loving care, we hope that once Caboose heals from his surgery, he will be able to use his back legs like any other little dog. He is already gaining weight and has made lots of volunteer, staff, and canine friends. He has become a playful little dog always ready for a new adventure. Caboose is hoping to find a family that will help him heal through our Foster to Adopt program. Save-A-Pet’s Foster to Adopt Program will continue to support Caboose with his medical care and physical therapy while he enjoys adjusting to his new “forever” home.
If you or someone you know is interested in adding Caboose to their family, please contact us at foster@saveapetil.org or call us at 847-740-7788.

Let me be your one and only!
"The bond with a true dog is as lasting as the ties of this earth will ever be." Konrad Lorenz
Do you want to find this lasting bond with a true dog? Do you have the patience and compassion to help a dog adjust to a new home? If you do, Save-A-Pet has some special dogs waiting to meet you. They are being overlooked for the simple reason that they need a low-key home without young children or other dogs/cats. During regular business hours, Save-A-Pet's staff and trained volunteers are available to help you find your “true” dog. You can spend as much time as you'd like to meet a variety of dogs. An appointment outside our regular hours can be made if it works better for your schedule. Every adoption of one of these special dogs, between now and the holidays, includes a half price adoption fee, $5 coupon towards a bag of food, favorite toy, and (for the holidays) your adopted dog will be receiving a special gift from all of us. Trust us, your dog will be happy to see the mailman! However, the best gift of all will be you, your animal's new forever home!
